On the 2nd Amendment

Dear Friends, This is the first of a weekly newsletter that I will be writing to inform the people that are dear to me, to help inform them about one of the only Bill of Rights that is time and time again not defended by our higher courts and is slowly slipping away — the 2nd Amendment.

Like the millions of law abiding gun owners in this country, I am a peace loving person. I own firearms so that I can defend myself and my family, should that need arise. While I sincerely hope that I am never in the position of having to fire a gun in self defense, I rest easier at night knowing that I could stop an armed robber, racist attacker, terrorist, or home invader if the need arose.

The simple fact is that gun control laws don't stop criminals from getting guns, and instead only disarm the law abiding citizens, making them easier targets for the criminals.

Given those facts, I would encourage my fellow law abiding citizens who do not yet own a gun to do the following: go shooting for the first time, choose the proper gun for self defense, purchase that gun, store the gun in a responsible manner, and become proficient at safely using that gun. Next, join the NRA to protect your right to have a gun for self defense.

An Eye-Opening Short Film

Dear Friends, This week I've decided to postpone what I wanted to talk about, because a friend of mine sent me a link to one of the most 'Eye-Opening' short films I have ever seen.

The film is called "No Guns For Negros", and it's all about how gun control began as an attempt to disarm the free blacks following the civil war. It's a must-watch for you and everyone you know.

Until next Friday, good luck and God Bless!

Choosing a Home-Defense Firearm

Occasionally people will ask me, "Dave, if I were to buy a gun for home protection, what would be the best gun to have?"

Each person's situation and geographic location is different. Today let's just address home safety. I personally feel that everyone should at least own (2) types of guns, a SHOTGUN — 12 Gauge preferably and a semi-auto pistol.

First, a shotgun is incredibly effective. I recommend using 00 buckshot. Barrel size should be 18", which is the minimal length allowed by law in most states and it is still not too cumbersome inside a home.

Next for the Pistol; for new owners I recommend a Springfield XD or XD(m) — equipped with the Ultra Safety Trigger system that guards against accidental discharge from dropping or bumping by locking the trigger in place until direct, rearward pressure is applied, plus a grip safety.

Remember: "IT IS BETTER TO HAVE A GUN AND NOT NEED IT, THAN TO NEED A GUN AND NOT HAVE IT." Take care and God Bless!
